- March 2026: I will be attending RWC 2026 in Tapei, Taiwan.
- December 2025: As part of my foray into finance, I have spent the month studying and taking a number of standardized exams to be able to do certain aspects of my job at Proof. I am happy to say I took and passed the SIE, Series 7, and Series 63 this month!
- October 2025: My colleague Moritz Huppert will be presenting our paper Probabilistic Skipping-Based Data Structures with Robust Efficiency Guarantees at CCS 2025 in Tapei, Taiwan.
- August 2025: I will be attending CRYPTO 2025 and the weekend workshops in Santa Barbara!
- June 2025: I have successfully passed my thesis defense and am officially Sam A. Markelon, PhD. You can check out the dissertation or check out the slides.
- June 2025: I presented our paper, Probabilistic Data Structures in the Wild: A Security Analysis of Redis , at CODASPY in Pittsburgh, PA. It was awarded Best Paper Award!

- November 2024: I am visiting the Cryptoplexity Group at TU Darmstadt for the last two weeks of November!
- July 2024: I have passed my qualifying exam! The written portion, On the Security of Data Structures, can be found here.
- March 2024: My colleague Mia Filić gave a talk based on our paper Compact Frequency Estimators in Adversarial Environments at RWC 2024. The video for the talk can be found here.
- November 2023: I presented our paper Compact Frequency Estimators in Adversarial Environments at CCS in Copenhagen, Denmark.
- August 2023: I will be on a research visit with the Applied Crypto Group at ETH Zurich until the end of the year.
