A short biography, some details about this site, and how to reach me.
About Me
Hello, my name is Sam A. Markelon. You can just call me Sam.
Taken somewhere between Connecticut granite and Gainesville humidity; in reality, in Frankfurt, DE.
I am a quantitative researcher at Proof Trading and a recently minted PhD in Computer Science from the University of Florida's Florida Institute for Cybersecurity (FICS) You can read more about my research here or download my CV.
I’m a lifelong New Englander by culture and temperament, although my recent half-decade in North Central Florida has certainly rubbed off on me some. I take particular pride in craftsmanship, both intellectual and practical. I care about rigorous thinking and building things that both endure and scale.
Beyond my professional life, I’m an amateur poker player, armchair philosopher, and bar trivia enthusiast. I’m fascinated by epistemology, probabilistic thinking, and how to align incentives in distributed systems and governance. I also enjoy sports (playing, watching, and plus EV wagering on), reading, watching films, and digging into microcultures (especially those of Maine and New England).
Online, I go by smarky7CD

I can be found using this identity on most popular places on the internet, although I am not very active anywhere. I'd say this is because I’m protective of my privacy and have been quite busy for the past five years. However, I would like to change this and gradually have more engagement online. In particular, I am committed to begin blogging on Substack at my blog Random Oracle

For books and films I’ve rated:
