Some Interesting Things I Listened to This Month
Something a bit different this month. I am going to highlight some of the podcasts I find interesting. For the sake of universality I am going to link to the YouTube versions of these podcasts. Although, I believe most should be available on whatever place you normally get your podcasts. I use Overcast to listen to podcasts on my iPhone.
- Odd Lots -- Odd Lots is among my favorite podcasts. It is produced by Bloomberg and hosted Tracy Alloway and Joe Weisenthal (a great follow on social media). Along with a guest, they do deep dives on both peculiar and important current cultural and economic trends. This is a three times a week show, so while I cannot listen to every episode it would be a great addition for anyone with a long daily commute.
- Signal and Threads -- This is a technology focused podcast from Jane Street featuring a conversation between an engineer at Jane Street and the co-head of technology Yaron Minsky. The episodes are generally informative and deelpy interesting, especially to people like me the enjoy algorithmic trading.
- Still Counting -- I am a big fan of Nate Silver and was left with a void when his last podcast Risky Business ended. This podcast serves as continuation of the original FiveThirtyEight podcast. Basically if you are a fan of Nate Silver, the data behind politics, AI, modeling, or prediction markets, I would suggest checking this one out.
- Plain English -- I became a Derek Thompson fan after reading Abundance. In his podcast he breaks down complex socially and economically relevant phenomena with a fantastic guest each week.
- Bet The Process -- Now for a podcast that touches some of my more niche interests. This is a weekly sharp sports betting podcast hosted by Jeff Ma (yes the guy famous for being on the MIT blackjack team) and Rufus Peabody (one of the most successful originators of all time).
